It’s hard to dispute the idea that Agents of SHIELD 309 could have easily been the mid-season finale. We had a shocking first five minutes, all kinds of agents in various dangerous situations, the continuing convergence of the series’ various Season 3 subplots and even a final scene that could have worked as the cliffhanger over the winter.
S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra go head-to-head in a battle that will change Coulson’s world forever. While Daisy and her team of Inhumans fight to keep Hydra at bay, Coulson and Fitz take the ultimate risk, in the epic winter finale of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Tuesday, December 8th on ABC.
The fact that we still have one more new episode this week means the writers still have more up their sleeves, which should make “Maveth” an absolute can’t-miss installment. The fight between SHIELD and Hydra has shifted to Jemma Simmons’ mystery planet, with the good guys trying to mount a rescue mission and the bad guys attempting to bring back an ancient evil. Phil Coulson is there too, complicating matters by hunting down Grant Ward for revenge. And Leo Fitz is helping Hydra in order to keep Simmons safe.
That’s quite the tangle of different elements, and we have a feeling they aren’t going to get untangled without some casualties. Agents of SHIELD has given us more than its share of dramatic deaths, but could there be another one in store this week?
Season 3 has been phenomenal so far, with the only real negative being its inaccessibility to new viewers. It’s easy (and true!) to tell people that they should be watching, but you almost need to tell them to go back to the beginning of Season 2 or the latter part of Season 1 to catch up for what’s happening now to make any sense.
